Installing and commissioning the driver

This page takes you from adding the driver to a house that is recording, with the rooms chosen and the Troubleshooter clear.

Before you start

Have these ready. See What you need for the full list.

  • A licence key: a 30-day trial or a full key from the product page.
  • The processor's Web API enabled: Settings → System Control Options → Web API Settings, and the processor rebooted since. The setting only takes effect after a reboot.
  • The site's latitude and longitude, if it isn't near London.

1. Add the driver

In the Crestron Home configurator, add a device to the room where the tile should appear. The driver is under Drivers → Scheduler → LCD Scheduler → Vacation Lighting Scheduler V2.

Pick "Vacation Lighting Scheduler V2"

The previous Vacation Lighting Scheduler may also be listed. This page documents V2. Don't install both on the same processor.

Give the device a name and press Continue. The setup wizard opens. It has two steps: Licence and Setup.

2. Enter the licence key

On the Licence step, paste the licence key into Licence key and press Next. Use Licence Store if you need a key or a trial first. The driver checks the key with the LCD licence server, which takes a few seconds.

The step also carries two links you'll use later:

  • Diagnostics & Setup opens the driver's browser app.
  • Product & Licence App manages this processor's LCD products and licences.
Nothing happens without a licence

Until the driver is licensed it doesn't record, Vacation Mode can't start, and its actions and A/V events don't run. The panel leaves out I'm going away and says the driver isn't licensed. Diagnostics & Setup and the Troubleshooter still work, so you can see what's wrong. Use a trial key if the full key isn't ready yet: every day without a licence is a day not recorded.

3. Set the location

The Setup step asks for Latitude and Longitude in decimal degrees. They default to London (51.5074, -0.1278).

The driver uses them to work out local sunset, so a simulated evening starts at the right time of year. If the site is in the UK, the default is close enough. Elsewhere, enter the site's location. North and east are positive, so a site in New York is 40.71 and -74.01.

Press Finish.

4. Check it's recording

Open Diagnostics & Setup from the driver's configuration page. The header should show Licensed and Reading this processor, with a count of rooms and scenes.

On the Coverage tab, press Record now. Today's count goes up by one, and the Activity tab shows a Recorded row. After that the driver records by itself every five minutes.

If the header says Processor API unreachable, run the Troubleshooter. The usual cause is the Web API being switched off, or switched on without a reboot since.

5. Choose the rooms

Every room takes part until you say otherwise. Open the Rooms tab and untick any room that should be left alone while the house is empty: a room whose lights would look odd from outside, or one with a sensitive load.

An unticked room is still recorded. It just isn't driven while away. The panel's Choose rooms page changes the same setting.

The Whole House room is never listed. Its scene drives every other room, so replaying it would drive each room twice.

6. Check which rooms can be simulated

Until a full week is recorded, Vacation Mode simulates rooms using their All On and All Off lighting scenes. If a room is missing either one, the Coverage tab lists it under "cannot be simulated".

Add the missing scene in Crestron Home, or accept that the room will stay as it is until the driver has recorded enough to replay it.

7. Choose where the tile appears

The tile appears on the Home page and in the driver's room. To change that, open Diagnostics & Setup → Settings and tick or untick Show on the Home page and Show on the room page. The tile moves straight away.

Unticking both

With both unticked, the tile doesn't appear anywhere in the Crestron Home app, so its page can't be opened from there. The app warns you when you do this.

8. Sign off with the Troubleshooter

Open the Troubleshooter tab and press Run all checks. On a new install you should see All clear, perhaps with a Check on Data coverage. That one only means no day has reached 80% yet, and it clears by itself after a day of normal use.

If anything else fails, follow the fix shown under it. See The Troubleshooter.
